I really love all three of the artists in questionable status here so here's my two cents

Iggy- NOOOOOOOOOOO! car insurance. i mean honestly. I have no arguement to defend old Ig.
John Lydon- I know the Lydon mindset is to "get up all in their faces" and what not but his string of ad didn't do that. He basically set himself up as a pantomine version of himself. After years of PiL trying to get away from it he has reverted right back to it
Sir Billy of Chatham- If it pays for another MBE's album I have no problems. He didn't actually appear in the commercial and I'd like to think it bought in new converts to the cause. He's still a fucking genius

I am fascinated. And a little disconcerted too, in the best possible way. Nothing I say in the following should be construed as criticism of Dave Wise, for whose uncompromising stance I have immense respect. But this is fertile territory that breeds many thoughts...

The Iggy Pop thing disappoints me. It's a step too far. But elsewhere, I've praised John Lydon for continuing to do what he does best: fucking with people's heads. Never do what they want you to do, even when "they" is "us". Who are we to cast judgement?

Who's having the last laugh? The commercial organisation that thinks it's captured and tamed a former punk? Or that self-same punk that sneers at the society that wants to be told what kind of butter to buy and is happy to wear a tweed jacket in the name of subverting the notion of capitalist choice?

Billy Childish providing music to Asda stretches my tolerance. But if Tesco approached the Murderbirds tomorrow, what would I say? Tell my friends that they should cast away all thoughts of financial security for themselves and their loved ones in the name of principle and ideology?

I can find no conclusions. But the debate is indeed invigorating. What do YOU think? Play the game to win or lose? Or opt out forever, whatever the consequences? I end as I began... utterly fascinated.
