The way I see it is that *mental health* and *mental illness* are on the same continuum. A lot of time is spent hovering in the middle of that - not one thing or the other - that I reckon is the peak of the bell curve. Sporadic forays into the outliers regions confirms we can be more than just average.

Thanks guys. Obviously the bulk of the credit goes to the Crooked Man for being so open about his experiences, but we both found it quite a daunting experience. Were we taking the right approach? Had we done the subject justice? How would people respond? Your feedback is very welcome indeed.

As the saying goes, there are lies, damn lies and statistics. Numbers must be taken with a pinch of salt, but the oft-quoted figures are that one person in ten is dealing with some kind of mental health issue at any one point in time and one in four throughout the course of their lifetime.

As YoungMinds' awareness-raising initiatives comment, this means that in the average classroom, three children are technically "mentally ill" to one extent or another. Yet the media generally prefers to talk about physical manifestations of ill health, like teenage binge drinking and childhood obesity - both of which, arguably, ultimately have their roots in emotional well-being.

Congratulations Hg and Mr Crook for a remarkable interview! I find it strange to imagine that people might live a life WITHOUT some sort of mental trauma at SOME point. Whether it's a panic attack or epilepsy, to full-blown delerium there is no worse feeling than being up-rooted from your life and sucked into an alternative version of your life where trust is replaced by fear, nerves are personified and your emotions feel to be re-wired to the point of blowing. Well done for not succumbing to the socially inflicted feelings of shame and embarrassment, and for sparing the time to talk from the heart about something we should all be aware of.
