The Domestic
This is the domestic I’ve been waiting for
The fight that never happened
A coffee cup stain bruise laid upon my cheek
Wet hair choking the plughole
A life so ordinary it could never hurt
You won’t be sleeping sound tonight
Cat shit on the carpet
And hand marks on the walls
Waiting for the postman who never arrives
Why don’t you just turn around and fight?
No noise after midnight
No heavy petting in public, are you sick or something, haven’t you heard
We are free falling
You only want it when I’m lain out like a doormat
When I’m crawling on all fours
You’re not fat you’re just greedy
I’m not sober, I’m just bored
We’re not happy, we’re just stupid
And I could not wish for more
This is the domestic I’ve been waiting for
I’ll love you, I’ll loathe you, evermore
I’m only happy when I’m crawling on all fours
Why don’t you kick me in the teeth just one time more?
Does it even matter what we’re fighting for
I’ll love you, I’ll loathe you, evermore

I wish I coulda heard the a cappella version of this you performed at the album launch.
The song builds brilliantly, and, is it power chords played? (they sound raw and crunchy and can hear the open E vibrating angrily)They remind me of an old 3/4 nylon string acoustic I used to have when I was a young ‘un.
As far as album openers go, I struggle between this and 6=8 off Accidents.. for fully kicking my teeth in as to what to expect to follow.
Love the vocals, particularly to the last 4 lines when they reach a new low if you get me.
This album has so much depth I’m having to come for air before I can get to the bottom of it!!!
